The Story Behind Ion Design
My name is Scott Baker, I’m the Founder and CEO of Ion Design.
For 27 years, I worked as a Set Designer and Illustrator in the Motion Picture Industry, bringing some of Hollywood’s biggest films to life. Design and problem-solving have always been in my blood—but in 2024, I turned over a new leaf, launching Ion Design to apply that same creativity and technical expertise to web design, development, and marketing for businesses in the greater Raleigh area.
My journey into web design started years earlier when, as a freelance designer, I needed a website. Like many business owners, I found myself trapped between DIY solutions that lacked flexibility and agency-built sites that were costly, bloated, or misaligned with real needs. Many businesses end up either:
Struggling to DIY, only to hit a wall where real functionality requires expensive plugins full of unnecessary features.
Going the agency route, getting a complex, high-cost website packed with third-party tools—often with recurring fees for features they barely use.
In 2024, I launched Ion Design to bridge that gap—offering custom, high-quality websites that don’t just look great but function strategically.
