I was asked by a professional musician to design a website that could inform and attract new students who are interested in private lessons.
We settled on a minimal design featuring warm bark earth tones with blue-green accents to support her desire to be perceived as professional, exclusive, and trustworthy.
She is now fully booked with 30 students a week, and considering growing her business into a new space, expanding her site to include a parent’s portal, payments, etc. all this within a few months of launching her site.
But what made her site so much more successful than her competitors?
Using proven marketing strategies in both layout and wording, we improved engagement and increased click-through rates by providing clear calls to action while speaking to the customers’ hesitations. By guiding her customer’s journey through the website, we were able to significantly improve the likelihood that they would take action.
Rather than using phony looking stock photos, I suggested we add a photo shoot to her website package, and the results speak for themselves! Not only was each image tailored for use in the website, thereby maximizing impact while minimizing shoot costs, her customer engagement rates increased dramatically from the increased trust they felt.
We used a rich color palette of dark earth tones and greens to create a cozy and inviting experience while implying sophistication and exclusivity. The rounded buttons and containers throughout the site lend a friendly and relaxed user experience, which suited my clients’ personality and teaching style.
Having a well-designed website must accomplish more than simply looking nice, it must support the brand identity of the client, increase engagements of potential customers, and even solve problems for the company. Each company will have unique challenges to overcome, and identifying those is a central mission at Ion Design.
The Owner of this site wanted a landing page for her side business, where she teaches dance lessons and offers choreography services.
She opted for a clean monochrome website, premium fonts, and a layout that could grow to suit her needs in the future.
With clearly defined calls to action, friendly Polaroid frames around the pictures, and a spacious design that invites the viewer to keep scrolling, I think she’ll have no problem attracting her ideal students and clients.
Kirstie knew from the beginning what she was looking for, this is not always common, but given that she has run a very successful and top-ranked dance studio for the past 30 years, it’s no surprise to me. Through a stripped down color palette and use of premium fonts, we were able to capture her no-nonsense approach to teaching, while still maintaining a friendly and professional look.
Bold and bright calls to action help improve conversion and create a good user experience. We opted for a bright warm purple color as her primary accent, which works well against the very dark plum site background color.
Kirstie opted to keep her site simple to start out with, but was excited to learn that this layout can be easily scaled over time to increase interactivity, and incorporate tools such as scheduling and payments processing.
Using best practices during the build phase makes the inclusion of SEO a lot easier, as was the case in this website. From keyword identification, to XML mapping and crawler optimization, Kirstie’s site was able to hit the ground running!
This is the site of our sister business, CSB Photography. Ion Design offers in-house services for all content creation for your business or personal website including business location photos, staff and process photos, portraits, intro videos, and video montages, etc…
I wanted the overall look for CSB Photography to be a variation on the theme I established for Ion Design. This is why you may notice it has the same primary branding colors, fonts, and dark backgrounds.
One of the features we incorporated into CSB Photography was a robust automation system for tracking photography jobs, clients, messages, booking requests, contract generation, and review follow up requests. This greatly reduces the amount of time we need to spend running the business, and allows us to focus on Ion Design, our primary business.
We wanted to maintain our branding fonts and colors for the CSB Photography website to make a unified experience. With a few subtle tweaks we were able to achieve this goal while still allowing the site to have some unique characteristics.
There are many aspects of building a custom website, which, if done poorly, can leave you and your customers feeling uninspired. Using low quality photos, or even worse stock or AI images is a mistake I see too often. We naturally chose to produce high quality original images for our photography website. This not only showcases our work, but provides an engaging and aesthetically pleasing user experience.
